If you enter the keyword “artificial intelligence” into Google image search, you're looking at a homogeneous blue wall of graphics depicting AI as humanoid robots. Mostly, these robots are white and inexplicably sexualized. Often, bundles of cables come out of their heads, or they themselves sit in front of computers that they operate via keyboards. Of course, this has nothing to do with the AI systems that science and industry are producing. The visual language for artificial intelligence is in crisis! When are metaphors in figurative language appropriate and when do they reinforce existing myths and misinformation? What are better/weirder/more interesting ways of depicting AI?
